Story
How we approached it
Chung King Villa is a residential property with a complex tile-roof geometry that couldn't support direct-mounted panels, and limited usable ground space around the building. The customer needed maximum solar capacity without compromising the existing roof structure or the usable terrace below.
Our approach
We designed an elevated steel structure that spans the existing tile roof — placing the array 2.8 m above the terrace level while preserving full walkway access underneath. The structure was engineered for dead load plus wind uplift specific to the site, and rafter spacing was set to land on the building's structural columns rather than over unsupported slab.
The array was split intentionally into two DC groups (9.36 kW and 5.85 kW) feeding two separate inverters and two separate EB meters. This configuration matched the customer's existing electrical infrastructure and gave them flexibility to allocate generation across service connections without consolidating meters.
Engineering details worth noting
- Saatvik 585 Wp bifacial TOPCon modules selected for low-light performance in Chennai's humid shoulder seasons
- Fox ESS inverters sized with modest DC-to-AC overclocking for real-world output beyond nameplate
- Polycab DC and AC cabling with Type-2 surge protection on both DC and AC sides
- Full single-line diagram and structural drawing signed off before fabrication, provided to the customer for any future modifications or resale due diligence
